Lucien Theatre Company is a democratic ensemble, inspired by sociocratic structures, aiming to reimagine theatrical performance for a new generation of artists and audiences.

Founded in 2024 by seven emerging theatre-makers who first met while training at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA, Lucien developed out of rigorous ensemble-based pedagogy rooted in voice, movement, and text.

Inspired by that training — and by its collaborative ethos — we began with a working question:

What happens when hierarchy is removed from the rehearsal room and replaced
with structured consensus and shared leadership?

Our work blends theatrical text with contemporary devising practices across stage and screen. We operate through rotating task forces, consensus-based leadership, and an offerings-driven structure that prioritizes rigor, accessibility, and radical hospitality.

Lucien is not simply producing theatre — we are actively investigating sustainable, ensemble-driven production models for the 21st century through our process-based structures.
